Udaipur is a city of marble palaces and lakes surrounded by ring of hills in the state of Rajasthan, India. This is considered among youngest cities of India, once the capital of Mewar it was founded by Maharana Udai Singh in 1559. The city is dominated by the Royal Architecture which overlooks lake Pichchola with its romantic island palaces .
The history of Udaipur is dominated by Sisodiya clan of Rajput dynasty. The city has strong influence of Royal Culture in monuments, paintings arts and crafts etc. It was founded by Udai Singh II in 16th century. It was attacked by Marathas in 1736 and led to ruin and poverty and slowly British stepped in. In 1969 Congress reduced the status to normal family and political recognition came to can end. Mewar household the longest-lasting of all ruling powers in Rajasthan, and perhaps the oldest surviving dynasty in the world.
Culture of the city has royal influence. People are very soft and decent by nature. Women are seen in colorful dress with ornaments on the body. We can find royal influence in painting, art and crafts since Sisodiya’s rule continued for the longest in the city. Food also has a very royal touch in flavour and taste.

City Palace: Situated on the eastern side of lake Pichola this is a beautiful combination of royal and mughal architecture.
Saheliyon Ki Bari: It was made in 18th century, also known as “Garden of the Maids of Honour”. The garden with rose has lotus pool and ornamental fountains.
Pichola Lake: Situated in eight square km, the lake was made by Udai Singh. It provide picturesque view of the city. It has two island palaces, one of which is Jag Niwas and other is Jag Mandir.
Jagdish Temple: the temple is situated in north of City Palace dedicated to Jagannath can aspect of Lord Vishnu. It was made in 1652.
The taste of royal food can be experienced in many parts of the city. There are many restaurants and food centre in the city. Ambrai famous restaurant of the city based on lake side.It provides veg and non-veg both. Jagat Niwas Popular restaurant in the hotel of the same name, serving up well prepared north Indian standards in a beautifully restored haveli, with nice views over the lake from its comfy window seats. Udaipur is Rajasthan’s top shopping destination with an array of local artisanal specialities. The city’s particular speciality is miniature painting, with numerous shops selling traditional Mewari-style works on paper and silk. . Famous for its miniature painting and silver jewellery Bara Bazaar, running east from the clock tower, is a good place to explore.
By Bus: Buses connect to all major locations of the country. They leave from Udai Pol bus stand in Udaipur. Government as well as Private Bus Service is available on the stand for the major location like Delhi, Agra, Ahemdabad etc. Ticket can be booked at counter as well as with agents too.
By Train: Train services aren’t widely available. For the major locations you have to break the train at Kota.
By Air: Dabok Airport is the nearest airport 25 km from Udaipur. Domestic flights connect to all part of the country from/for Udaipur (Dabok Airport).
Autorickshaw: Auto rickshaw are usual mode of transport in the city. Though they are relatively high in fare but its fun to ride rickshaw in the city.
Taxi: taxis are the common means of transport in the city. You can ride taxi to save time and enjoy a comfortable journey to forts palaces and lakes of the city.
