About Kalimpong Tourism

Kalimpong is a hill station in the state of West Bengal. Located at  an altitude of 1250 metre, the city is situated in the Mahabharat range. The city is known for its educational institution established during colonial period. The Indian Army’s 27 Mountain Division is located on the outskirts of the town.It is a famous tourist destination of the region, river Teesta passess through the city.

History of Kalimpong

Till 19th century the area was ruled by Sikkimese and Bhutanese. And the area was known by the name of Dalingkot. The area was sparsely populated by the indigenous Lepcha community and migrant Bhutia and Limbu tribes. In 1947 after Independence, the city became the part of the West Bengal the state of India.

Culture of Kalimpong

The original settler of Kalimpong are Lepcha. The majority of the population is also Nepali. People from all communities can be seen here. Diwali, Christmas and Lhosar are some major festivities celebrated over here. Language spoken over here is Nepali, Bengali, Hindi and English. The famous eateries are momo, churpi and noodle preffered by the people.
