About Jaisalmer Tourism

Jaiselmer is located in remote westernmost part of Rajasthan. This quintessential desert town is also called Golden city of India. History of Jaisalmer

Quitessential desert town of the golden city was founded in 1156.The city was founded by Rawal jaisal of the Bhati clan.The city has a huge beautiful fort made by Rawal Jaisal. It has 4 gates named as Elephant Gate, Sun Gate, Haunted Gate, and Wind Gate. The fort is dotted with many intricately carved haveli’s.

Things to do in Jaisalmer

Sonar Quila: Made by Rawal Jaisal in 1156, This is a huge fort built in Jurrasic Sandstone.the Golden Fort is perched seventy six meter high atop Trikuta Hill.

Nathmal ki Haveli: This beautiful haveli was carved by two brother Lalu and Hathi. It was the residence of Nathmalji in 19th century.

Salim Singh ki Haveli: This conspicuous mansion was the residence of Salim Singh Mohta. He was tyrannical prime minister during 18th century.

Gadsisar Lake: This lake was built in 1367 flanked with beautiful ghats and temples.Once it was the important source of drinking water.

Chandan Shree Restaurant: Rajasthani specialities such as govind gatta and gulab jamun are available here situated on the outside of the city wall, just south of Amar Sagar Pol.

Bhatia Bazaar: Situated between Gandhi Chowk and Gopa Chowk this is prime shopping centre of the place.

Barmer Embroidery House:  Situated near Patwa Haveli this is good place for textile, mirrorwork and torans

Bookshops: Bhatia News agency on Court road just beyond Gandhi Chowk, has guidebooks and  English- language novels.

How to reach Jaisalmer

Railway Station: Situated on east of town on Jodhpur Road, trains are available for Jodhpur and Delhi.

Buses: Bus Stands are located on south part of the city. There are governments as well as private buses available in the city for different city of state.

Travelling in Jaisalmer

Rickshaw: One can travel on rickshaw to explore the city.

Taxi: there are some taxi operator in the city who can provide taxi if you like to hire one. Taxi are more comfortable to travel.

Camel: There are some agent who arranges camel safari to experience if you like a ride on it.

Travel Tips for Jaisalmer Trip

Carry Passport Inc. Visa, Cash Card, Credit Card, Health Insurance Card if any, Vaccination Booklet, Program Booklet, Important Phone Numbers and Extra Passport Copy.
Carry your sun cream, hand sanitizers, soap/Shampoo, personal medicines and ant diarrheal medicines.
Avoid wearing too short clothes. Carry your Sunglasses, party clothing and representative clothing.
In terms of Electronics, must carry your phone+charger, photo-video cam, E-banking.
Other miscellaneous things to carry are travel guide, books/magazines, playing cards, neck-pillow, sleeping mask, towel and money belt.
